Your Child’s Experience
A Montessori education prioritizes teaching to the individual child and meeting them where they are. At The Children’s Academy, we focus on education vs. play based learning. That said, early education must be warm and fun and inviting, which is why we encourage all of our educators to maintain their sense of play in the classroom. Life, afterall, is all about balance.
The Children’s Academy has 2 separate classrooms - The Transitional Room and The Big Room.
The Transitional Room is home to children ages 2 ½ to 3 ½ year old. Concentrating on this sensitive period of life, the classroom environment is structured so as to allow the children to develop physically, intellectually, socially, and emotionally. By incorporating free movement and an understanding of the child's sensitive period, Montessori students develop to their own potential, not the expectations of others. In the Transitional Room, the children are introduced to practical life, language, math and culture, and each area has many unique, Montessori materials to challenge the child. In this caring and nurturing environment, the children gain many new skills that parents quickly see playing out at home as well.
The Big Room serves the needs of children 3 to 6 years of age. Our Big Room teachers prepare their environment so that the children are encouraged to explore, socialize, imagine and exercise their creativity. This allows freedom to develop practical life, sensorial education, language and mathematics. Our cultural area encourages beginning awareness of our world, science studies, Spanish, French, music, and current events. The child develops concentration, independence, self-discipline, dexterity, grace and courtesy.
Our smaller classroom size empowers our educators to focus on every need and keep the children feeling successful as they learn. It also enables grouping by ability vs. age and enables school directors to monitor and maintain each educator’s specific teaching style. We enable our staff to take a child as far as they can go - both challenging the child AND building confidence.

What’s on the menu?
The Academy prides itself on fueling our children with what’s good and green. Our teachers encourage exploration and often find success in coaxing the little ones to stray from their daily-norms and embrace a little healthy snack adventure.
School lunches are sourced from Simply Gourmet, a vendor we’re proud to have partnered with for over 6 years now. They offer online ordering so that parents are empowered to choose food and treats that suit their child’s tastes, allergies and whims. The cost of Simply Gourmet is covered within each child’s tuition.
At snack time, The Academy serves healthy snacks like organic pretzels, string cheese, clementines and apple slices, carrot sticks and more. If your child tends to run on the hungrier side, please feel free to send snacks or a pre-packed lunch to school. We encourage our parents to please send low-sugar treats and to please respect our 100% nut free guidelines.
How We Tackle Tears
Every child transitions from home to school in their own unique way. When tears happen, we comfort and acknowledge our children’s individual needs. Our teachers keep their observations of and responses to a child’s behavior positive, and our Discipline Policy emphasizes positive redirection as opposed to a negative response.
In individual cases, our discipline follows this procedure:
If a child misbehaves, he or she is told privately to correct the inappropriate behavior.
If the behavior does not improve, we remove the child from the situation and try to involve him in another activity.
If the above two suggestions do not correct the unfavorable behavior, the child is asked to sit in a quiet place in our classroom.
If none of the previous methods correct the situation, we will call the parents and arrange for a conference.

Maria Montessori Loved Summer Too!
When Winter melts away and the summer sun comes out to play…parents scramble for childcare :) That’s why The Children’s Academy offers A Summer Montessori Session for children ages 2 ½ to 6.
Our Summer Program is a wonderful introduction for new students as well as a happy continuation for returning students. The Summer schedule is less structured than our academic year, and our program includes:
The Montessori practical life shelf with an abundance of living skills
The sensorial shelf of building apparatus and comparison materials
The basic language and math materials and handmade materials
Open craft tables with changing tactile materials for creativity
Children’s story time with corresponding art projects
A variety of musical tunes and dance
An open art table with a variety of media for free expression
Playground time for fun in the sun and climbing
Extracurriculars for The
Extra Cute Among Us
No one among us can be all business all the time. That’s why our staff at The Academy offers mid-day extra curricular activities like Cooking, Soccer and Yoga.
Outside, vetted vendors are sometimes brought in to teach music, dance, life-science and more.
Throughout the year our teachers and children join forces and put together Holiday Recitals and Graduation Performances. Families are invited to attend in our Assembly Hall or watch virtually.
